See Ya Later Alligator … We’ll Miss You Julane! 

As the Spring approaches we say goodbye to one of our valued Instructors as she sets out on a new adventure! Julane is freeing up her schedule in order to pursue her dreams within the massage therapy world. The biggest part of this dream: to work towards being hired on with a sports team! To learn more about Julane’s next steps and a heartfelt goodbye, keep reading! 

What is your next adventure?

No imminent adventure, but definitely some big dreams! At the moment I will be using my spare time to train for my upcoming duathlon… and maybe for another bobsled combine! I am filling up my calendar by completing my last year of university for my degree in health sciences online, courses to fulfill some curiosities, complete some upgrades and to better my skills in massage, Pilates and business!

I also intend to send in some resumes to professional sports teams. I  have completed a season as the trainer for the Panthers, semi pro baseball team, and three seasons as the massage therapist with the Kitchener Rangers. I would love to have a more prominent role!

Will massage be your sole focus?

I will be adding some massage hours to continue building my practice as well as focusing on some self improvement (see above)!

What was your favourite part about working at KW Art of Fitness?

Definitely the people! I couldn’t ask to be surrounded by a better group of clients and coworkers! I have loved working here over the last decade thanks to you truly wonderful people.

You guys have helped me learn and laugh every day and I couldn’t be more grateful to have you in my life! It is tremendously hard to say goodbye because I feel like I have a special bond with every single one of you; but I am leaving you in good hands!

Missed Class? Replacing Class Credit with Class Make-Up

Over the last few months we have been reworking and revamping our website and have added the new shopping cart option. This has already made it much simpler for clients to ensure they are enrolled in the class of their desire and have an accurate invoice sent directly to them. Through this process, I have come to realize that my system of invoicing needs to be simplified further in order to properly manage the company. This in turn will allow me to purchase great new equipment and continue to keep the level of service we offer above and beyond expectations.

Missed a classThis season we will be eliminating the class credit option and replacing this option with a class make-up. This means that within the season if you have to miss a class due to illness, sleeping in or busy life schedule, we request that you attend another class within that same season or the next registered class season. In order to ensure we maintain a safe environment for those attending classes, your make-up can be a reformer class only if you have previous experience on a reformer with one of our trainers. To start, we will be open to you attending any other class as a make-up regardless of what class you are registered for. Once we have been through a few seasons and re-assess how this is working, we will review feedback from clients and create concrete guidelines around the make-up class option.

Please note: when registering for your classes at the beginning of the season you are still welcome and encouraged to register for only the number classes you will be able to attend.

January 30 – March 5, 2012

Becoming a Healthier You
When: Saturdays 9 – 10 a.m. Cost: $90
This nutrition based workshop will cover topics such as: managing smart food choices with a busy lifestyle, simple alternatives to increase the value of your meats, nutritional supplements, how to balance the immune system, as well as exploring our genetic makeup and how nutrition and the environment impacts individuals.

Neuro Activity for Everyday Living
When: Mondays 12 – 12:45 p.m. Cost: $108
Our nervous system is a vital part of our daily movement and function, it is the information superhighway that controls information we take from our environment to interpret as functional movement. This class is about learning how to use exercise to better access the nervous system to facilitate improve motor control and awareness. Through exercise we can change the structural organization of the nervous system and in turn this will change how we move, balance and react to the environment around us!

Triple ‘S” Boot Camp
When: Fridays 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Cost: $126
The goal of this class will be to provide a complete cardiovascular, muscular strength and flexibility workout through Triple “S” concept (spin, strength and stretch). While having fun, we will progress through challenging and diverse exercises so you can feel a sense of accomplishment with the completion of each class. We will use spin bikes, skipping ropes, bosu balls, stability balls, medicine balls, free weights, body bars, rotation discs, resistance tubing, therabands and foam rollers.

Nia – 90 Minute Experience
When: Fridays 4:30 – 5:00 p.m. Cost: $126
Nia weaves a holistic mind/body approach to a rhythmic cardio class that includes core and stretch elements. Over the 6 week series, Nia students will plearn (play + learn) some of the White Belt Principles, and practice the information to experience more fulfilling workouts as well as to better one’s understanding of one’s own body and its individual needs.
Each week’s focus wilt build and add on to the previous week, allowing for integration and synthesis as we progress. Starting with overall awareness of the myriad sensations in our bodies as we move and sense stillness, we will continue up the body in anatomical order from the base. At each level, direction will be given to hone skills in movement as well as skills in ‘listening’ to the body from the base all the way to the upper extremities. The extra time will allow each student to truly embody the form of each movement through his and her own personal freedom in the dance.
Life is a continuously shifting balance between the forms one must learn and conform to in day to day life, and one’s freedoms in adding personal spice and flare to them. This Nia Experience Series will allow for a safe and playful space to exercise and grow in as many ways as you can come up with!
