“Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.” Joseph Pilates
Alongside a base philosophy within the realm of Joseph Pilates’ traditional exercise regimes, I believe in developing perception, recognition and ability to distinguish preferred muscle action. I also value keeping a fresh approach to fitness that is clarifying and stimulating through specific mechanics, fun, vigor and radiance at play. A multi- faceted, yet balanced, intermingling of tools, knowledge, experience and spirit will develop authentic alignment patterns and a synergistic understanding of your kinesthetic sense.
I am currently a Nia Blue Belt instructor. I have been dancing and moving all my life. I have lived all over the world and experienced many different forms of physical expression with music; jazz, ballet, tap, modern (Martha Graham), salsa, Taekwondo, Tai Chi, Yoga (Vinyasa, Hatha, Bikram, Ashtanga), and musical theatre. Nia has brought most of all these movement forms together into one, graceful and freeing, physical fitness experience. I have been dancing Nia for eleven years now and it seems as if my life’s history has been preparing me for sharing Nia with others all along!
Nia’s Philosophy Through movement we find health. Through kinaesthetic self-expression and dance, using music, Joy, and the sensation of pleasure, Nia allows everyBody to find their way to optimum holistic health, balancing and connecting body, mind, emotions and spirit. Nia is no pain, ALL gain.
What is Nia? The Nia Technique is a cardiovascular fitness and personal growth practice that integrates the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Nia embraces both form and freedom: the form of simple steps, kicks, and stances that anyone can learn; and the freedom of each participant’s inner dance. Nia truly represents the “Joy of movement.”

I am thrilled to be joining Stephanie and the rest of the team at K-W Art of Fitness. I have been involved in the fitness/coaching industry for 25 years and look forward to continuing my development as a personal trainer. I am certified with the Canadian Personal Trainers Network as well as the International Youth Conditioning Association. Prior to becoming a personal trainer, I was a figure skating coach and had attained a Level II coaching certification.
There were two main directives that lead me to develop a career as a personal trainer. The first was my love for fitness. I was a figure skater in my youth and have continued to enjoy the many facets of fitness training from spinning classes to strength training and yoga. Secondly , I enjoy coaching and guiding both young people and the young at heart to attain their personal goals.
In my opinion, everyone has unique and personal goals; in fitness, sport and life. We spend so much of our lives meeting the need of others; we owe it to ourselves to take some time to step back, breathe and focus on our well being. My prime focus as a personal trainer/coach is to develop a goal oriented plan and with guidance, encouragement and creativity assist each client in attaining his/her personal fitness goals.
“If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or otherwise it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them”. Bruce Lee

So many of us go through life with a sense that we are not ok and, as a result, live in a state of tension and frustration. My goal is to help clients over come this hurdle by being “you” through movement and by exploring the interrelationship of all body parts in all movement. Having been a competitive figure skater most of my life, I have been exposed to so many types of training and approaches to fitness. I really feel, however, that Pilates is the most beneficial form of exercise in terms of health, strength, control and looking goooood!
