Light Rail Transit (LRT) Detour and Construction Stress

This week at the studio, I noticed one common theme in conversation as clients came in for class: LRT Construction and detours!  It seems everywhere you turn roads are torn up, barricades are erected and traffic is slowed down.  It can be challenging in unexpected times of frustration and delay to remain calm, can’t it?  One thing is clear: LRT construction will remain a reality on the streets of K-W for many months to come.  Instead of getting bogged down in the LRT frustration, let’s not only take this time in our car to focus on driving safely…but also dial-in to PILATES!

INSTEAD OF THIS…. DO THAT…
· Another road closure have you fired up and taking shallow breaths? ·Select relaxing music. Focus on your breath.  Full, deep inhales through your nose as your ribcage and diaphragm expand, exhaling out your mouth.
·Following detour signs as you drive with shoulders clenched up around your ears and tension mounting in your upper back? ·Find relaxation through your head, neck and shoulders as you draw your shoulder blades away from ears to hug the spine.
·Leaning forward over the steering wheel, looking to see when the next break in traffic will appear? ·Take note of your head positioning in relation to your shoulders and body.  Is there an opportunity for you to draw your head back in to alignment towards the head rest?
·Simply can’t take any more of this construction as you slouch low in your seat? ·With proper alignment in mind, sit up tall in your driver’s seat allowing your pelvic floor, diaphragm and roof of your mouth to be stacked on top of one another in alignment.

I think we may have just found the silver lining to all this LRT construction! With this refreshed view on the opportunity that lies ahead – I wish you safe travels and happy trails!

 

This just in ….

Thanks clients for inspiring us instructors!Today I received a fun email from a client. Of course, it made me laugh and feel pretty damn good about myself AND has left me feeling very grateful that we have clients who are so interested in the details of Pilates, movements as well as a sincere desire to learn how to self monitor and understand “proper form.”

So, from Liz to me and from me back to Liz and all of you who come to our studio …. THANKS FOR INSPIRING ALL OF US INSTRUCTORS TO GET INTO WHAT WE TEACH!  (yes that’s loud cap letters on purpose!)
